The Team Formerly Known as the Washington Redskins Will Be Known as the “Washington Football Team”

The team formerly known as the Washington Redskins announced on Thursday that they will be known as the "Washington Football Team" until a permanent name is selected.  They hope to have all of the mentions of Redskins scrubbed by the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The team is, for now anyway, keeping the franchise's color scheme and will have the retired logo on the helmet replaced with the player's number.

Effective immediately, Washington will call itself the “Washington Football Team”, pending adoption of a new name, sources tell ESPN.

The Washington Football Team will continue the process of retiring the Redskins name and hopes to be entirely rid of it on physical and digital spaces in the next 50 days, by the Sept. 13 regular-season opener against the Eagles.

So what's taking so long to pick a new name, probably the asshole who filed for trademarks of all of the new name ideas.  The team formerly known as the Washington Redskins hasn't come out and said that, but that's probably a pretty good guess.
