Kelvin Benjamin was cut by the Giants on Wednesday during the first day of training camp.  The former wide receiver turned tight end showed up to camp overweight.

It's been the story of his NFL career, which came to an end back in 2018.  The Giants asked him to come to training camp at 251 pounds after he weighed in at 265 pounds at the end of minicamp.  Benjamin showed up at 268 pounds.

So the Giants cut him.  He thinks he was cut because head coach Joe Judge didn't like him and the team "never wanted the narrative to be good about me."

From NJ.com:

“To be honest, man, I just felt like it was all a hoax,” Benjamin said of his brief time with the Giants. “I felt like they didn’t give me a chance. I finished the conditioning. I finished all of that. I did what I was supposed to do. Everybody in the building was telling me I looked great. They never wanted the narrative to be good about me.”

“Dave was the one that got me here — and Dave knew exactly what went down. I’m a team guy. I’ve been on a winning team before. I get the politics in the league and stuff. But the thing with me is: Don’t sit there and try to bash my game and let the story run wild. Just tell the truth. Be honest.”

Spoken like a guy who just doesn't get it.  They're trying to see if you're disciplined enough to do what they ask.  That's all.  You failed the test and they booted your ass out of camp.

Why would they waste their time bringing you in just to make you look bad?
