Lindsey Vonn overshot her shot when it came to skiing. She did the over promise and under deliver strategy of over hyping herself up, to put pressure on herself to live up to those expectations, only to fail in the first 14 seconds.

Sure, we live in an world where everyone gets a trophy for trying and there's a lot of people saying things like "at least she tried" or "I'd like to see you out there on that hill", even though you're not a professional skier.

That doesn't discount the fact that she was in over her head, how do we know this, because she broke her leg in the first 14 seconds.

You see, most Olympic heroes at the top of their game don't fall in the first 14 seconds, that's what happens to old ladies who can still ski hard to qualify but are too old to really pull it off.

Age isn't just a number, she has mileage on her, no matter how many oil changes or tire changes she gets, that baby is rusted out and broken.

At least she tried, more like, at least she didn't die, because she could have.

She shared her hospital bed with her fans where she wrote:

I had my 3rd surgery today and it was successful. Success today has a completely different meaning than it did a few days ago. I’m making progress and while it is slow, I know I’ll be ok. Thankful for all of the incredible medical staff, friends, family, who have been by my side and the beautiful outpouring of love and support from people around the world. Also, huge congrats to my teammates and all of the Team USA athletes who are out there inspiring me and giving me something to cheer for.

Her injury meant 3 surgeries and months of rehab once she heals.

Time to hang up the ski boots and live the rich ex-athlete life where the only skiing she does is for charitable reasons, like make-a-wish or under-privileged kid skiing.
