There is an insane story circulating the internet, which I like to think was likely just a troll that people are running with.
You can't really read tone or context of tweets and comments and people say outrageous things that trigger the right people to run with the story, which makes it a story.
Twitter allows for monetization, so rage bait is all the rage to get pageviews, and if your rage bait gets viral, you get rewarded. It's a business model.
So yesterday's rage bait was that the media is racist, because the media goes mental when Taylor Swift is at an NFL game to support her NFL man, but no one cares when gymnastics legend Simone Biles attends a game to support her NFL man, so clearly it must be racism.
It's obviously not racism, so I don't know why that's even a clickbait headline, because Taylor Swift is just more important that Simone Biles because she's a celebrity and not an Olympic athlete, and it's not because of a race thing. If Beyonce was dating an NFL player, the media would be going mental and still ignore that Simone Biles was at an event, since no one cares.
In this case of non-racism being packaged as racism for the sake of conversations like this to distract us all, Taylor Swift a pop star who has become a literal billionaire thanks to her recent album and record breaking tour. She's been famous for a decade, has 275 million followers on instagram, is basically being used as a marketing machine for the NFL and the Chiefs because the media LOVE HER.
Simon Biles, an Olympic Gymnast who is very accomplished and skilled at her sport, but who only hits the minds of the public every 4 years when an Olympics rolls up, and if I remember correctly, she didn't even commit to the last Olympics because of mental health or some other ailment which kind of takes away from her legend status.
Taylor Swift's man is on the KC Chiefs, the most hyped up team from winning the Super Bowl, from having Mahomes as the QB, from having Mahomes' brother and wife being media targets, to Kelce himself, arguably the best tight end in the history of the game according to Gronk, the previous best tight end in the history of the game.
Biles' man, Jonathan Owens gets paid 1,000,000 dollars a year on the worst team in the 2022 season, the Texans.
So clearly, it's not really a race issue.
