Virginia Tech LB Arrested on Second-Degree Murder Charges

Virginia Tech freshman linebacker Isimemen Etute has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.  The 18-year-old is accused of killing a 40-year-old acquaintance.

It goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway.  Etute has been suspended from the football team and the university.

From Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Etute, from Virginia Beach, is scheduled for a hearing on Thursday in Montgomery County General District Court, and is being held without bond.

Etute has been suspended from the team and the university, according to a statement released by Virginia Tech.

Blacksburg police have identified the victim as Jerry Smith, 40, and said the two men "were acquaintances." The police also said they have "identified and interviewed" multiple witnesses

The details of what led to the murder haven't been released, but if I had to guess I would say it was over something insanely trivial.
